Vonn and Mancuso Coach Alex Hoedlmoser of the U.S. Women’s Ski Team

Skiing: U.S. Women’s Head Coach; Lindsey Vonn, Julia Mancuso

For some it looks like Alex Hoedlmoser has one of the best jobs in the world. He’s women’s head coach of the U.S. Ski Team, helping the likes of Lindsey Vonn and Julia Mancuso bring in piles of Olympic and World Championship medals.  When it comes to speed racing, his skiers are now at the top of the hill, regularly beating the traditionally dominant Austrian, German and Swiss teams.

Sports Coach Radio is a weekly audio show providing in-depth insight to the people and passion behind winning performances. It’s hosted by sports and performance psychologist Glenn Whitney, and you can listen to it on this site or on Apple iTunes.

Alex is a former Austrian national champion and professional World Cup racer, making the transition to coaching nearly 15 years ago. He has twice been named USSA Alpine International Coach of the year, and divides his time between Austria, Utah, Colorado and about a dozen other places where you’ll find snow and steep slopes.

We caught up with him when he was making a brief refuelling stop at his hometown of Sant Johan in Austria.
